Barney's Song : I Love You

Barney’s favourite song, “I Love You”, is sung to the tune of “This Old Man”, an old English children’s song ( Roud Falk Song Index 3550 )

Barney is a stuffed, purple T-Rex, in the Popular children’s television show – Barney and Friends, aimed at children from ages 1 to 8, created in 1987 by Sheryl Leach.  The cute, funny voice of Barney’s was lend by Bob West, until recently the album The Land of Make Believe has Dean Wendt’s voice.

Barney, through the show, conveys educational messages through songs and small dance routines with a friendly, optimistic attitude.  Which seems appropriate for young children, as compare to the nasty SpongeBob SquarePants.

However, some critics commented that Barney fails to assist children in learning to deal with negative feelings and emotions ; everyone must be happy and everything must be resolved right away.

It is ranked on 2009 TV Guide’s List of the 50 Worst TV Shows of All Time at 50 !

Yet, the song ”I Love You“ is nice and easy one to learn, even by small children.  Nevertheless, very much appropriate for children too !

I love you, you love me
We’re a happy family
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to you
Won’t you say you love me too

I love you, you love me
We’re best friends like friends should be
With a great big hug and a kiss from me to  you
Won’t you say you love me too
