Siri Melaka lateritic soil

The Malacca series is the most widespread soil type in Malacca.  It derived from sedimentary rocks, easily recognized by massive laterite embedded in yellowish red clay loam soil. 

Siri Melaka soil are intensively planted with rubber.  The thick horizon of laterite provides durable material for road foundations and surfacing.   The soil was used as a building stone, notably the Porta de Staniago of A’ Farmosa and St. Pauls’s Church.



Pokok Melaka & buah Melaka

Pokok Melaka ( Phyllanthus emblica ) is a tree bearing an edible fruit of the same name.  The fruit are pickled of cooked into various dishes.

According to Malay Annals, Parameswara while resting under the tree, saw a mousedeer outwitting his hunting dog into the water.  Thus established the Melaka kingdom.



Gula Melaka

Gula Melaka is a sweetener derived from coconut’s ( Cocos nucifera ) sap ( nira ) from the inflorescence ( mayang ).  The sap is boiled down to produce a syrup, which is then allowed to crystalize in bamboo sections.

It is widely used in Malay culinary, especially in making kueh.



Kueh buah Melaka

Kueh buah Melaka also known as onde-ondeOnde-onde is made of pandan ( Pandan amaryllifolius ) flavoured glutinous rice flour, stuffed with gula Melaka and covered in grated coconut.
