Tor tambroides - Empurau

Common names
Thai Mahseer, 似野結魚 (China), Sengkareng (Indonesia), Pa kva (Laos), Pla wien (Thai), Cá Ngựa xám (Vietnam), Empurau 忘不了(Sarawak)

Distribution
Asia : Chao Phraya & Mekong basins, Malay Peninsular, Sumatra, Java, and Borneo

Biology
Adults inhabit pools and runs over gravel and cobble in rivers flowing through undisturbed forest. Move downstream at the onset of the rainy season. Migrate upstream after 2 months and spawn near the mouths of small streams.
Omnivorous, feeding on both animal and vegetable matter.

Economy
In Sarawak, a 2kg-size Empurau fish marketed at exorbitantly RM600-750/kg.
